Children’s Mental Health Week 2021

This year, Children’s Mental Health Week runs from the 1st – 7th February with the them ‘Express Yourself’

Place2Be launched the first ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health. It is now in its seventh year. To find out more about Place2Be and Children’s Mental Health Week please click here.

Local Support for Parent and Carers




Motherwell is a Cheshire Charity that supports, empowers and inspires women and girls to improve their mental health. They have an Online Community Group which provides free online activities such as Art Sessions, Brew Morning and Wellbeing Workshops via Facebook, for enquires about this please contact Debbie via text at 07496160939 or email, they also offer affordable counselling for both men and women for just £25 a session please contact for more information. They also run the Believe Project, this is a unique project, that supports mums at risk of having their children removed from their care. The current system is very complicated and can have a negative effect on mums mental health.

SWANS CIC is a community interest company which was formed by three qualified practitioners who are counsellors and trainers working with adults and children in a variety of settings. Just Drop In


Just Drop In provide free and friendly services for children and young people from Macclesfield and surrounding areas. They provide support to those who need a bit of help in finding their feet or who are struggling with their emotional health and wellbeing.

They currently are offering:

*Anxiety Online Workshop for Parents and Carers – Wednesday 10th & Friday 12th February 10am -11:30am this is a free workshop to increase awareness, whilst providing practical tips to support a child or young person who may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety.  To apply for a place email:

*Online Youth Mental Health First Aid for Parents & Carers. In February Just Drop In are running a Mental Health First Aid course for parents of 11-18 year olds, giving you an in-depth understanding of mental health issues, along with tools to help support your child and other young people. The course usually costs £300 per person but is fully funded meaning it’s free for you to access. We have 15 spaces available, and it runs over the course of 4 consecutive Mondays from 10:00-13:00, starting 8th February. You join digitally from home, and will take part in some individual learning in-between the 4 live sessions with your instructor. At the end of the course you will be a certified mental health first aider. Email for more details or to book.

* ½ Day Mental Health Aware Workshop for Parents in partnership with Wilmslow Youth -Saturday 6th February 10am – 1pm via Zoom. You will receive a MHFA manual and an accredited Mental Health First Aid England Certificate upon completion. Please contact for a referral form

Just Drop in also offer local support for young people.

*VIRTUAL DROP-IN – Drop-In online or over the phone between 10-4 Monday to Saturday for open access support on any issue. Please note that at present you cannot drop into our office in person, as we’re only able to allow access to the building to people with prearranged appointments.

*Mentoring Service – If you need a little bit more support to find your feet our mentoring service could be a help. Our staff and volunteers will help you set goals for your future and put a plan in place to help you achieve them. You would be matched with a mentor and offered regular slots to work together to put your plan in place.

Visyon is a charity that supports the emotional health of children, young people and their families in the Cheshire and Staffordshire moorlands areas. Services they offer include; One-to-one therapy, therapeutic groupwork, family support work, therapeutic play, creative activities, mentoring, cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and parent support groups.


They also run a Help Line for young people (13+) or parents to call if they need to talk on 01260290000 or TXT on 07508074748 or email , Also on offer is advocacy support which is for anyone having difficulty accessing services or feel like they are not being listened to.

National Support For Young People


The Positivity People CIC

They offer a free Positive Listening Service for young people 07514942864 their website states:

‘With the recent new Government National Lockdown, we have decided to show our support and do our bit to help the community. If you are feeling concerned, feeling low, having low-esteem, worried about family, work, day-to-day living then please contact usWe are here to help you in these times of need, we know that now more than ever you need our help to boost Mental Health and guide you to the right support. We are a private and confidential service, everything between you and the phone operator is totally confidential unless you tell us something that may harm yourself, us or someone else, then we have to take the appropriate steps to get some immediate help or support. Mental Health Services and other services available during these times are under a lot of strain and pressure right now, so by us offering a FREE Listening Service, we hope to reduce the stress from other services. Our Listening Service is open everyday from 10am-3pm.’

They run a parents helpline for detailed advice, emotional support and signposting about a child or young person up to the age of 25. Call on 0808 802 5544 (Monday to Friday 9.30am – 4pm, free for mobiles and landlines).

  • You’ll get through to a trained adviser who will listen and talk through your concerns in complete confidence.
  • Your adviser will help you to understand your child’s behaviour and give you practical advice on what to do next.
  • If you need further help, they’ll arrange for one of our qualified mental health professionals to call you for a 50-minute telephone consultation within seven days.
  • Please note, calls may be recorded for monitoring or training purposes.

  • If English is not your first language, we can arrange for an interpreter as a member of LanguageLine.

They have various options of crisis support available –

For young people they can text the YoungMinds Crisis Messenger for free 24/7 support across the UK if you are experiencing a mental health crisis.

  • If you need urgent help, text YM to 85258.
  • All texts are answered by trained volunteers, with support from experienced clinical supervisors.
  • Texts are free from EE, O2, Vodafone, 3, Virgin Mobile, BT Mobile, GiffGaff, Tesco Mobile and Telecom Plus.
